Fighting for land in Burkina Faso, the hopes of a people battling desertification and violence
We visited the district of Ouagadougu and the northern districts of Burkina Faso to meet the people who fight for their land with strength, determination and hope day after day.
Burkina, in West Africa, is one of the countries most affected by desertification, whose advance destroys 360,000 hectares of farmland and pasture every year. As well as facing crises related to water shortages and soil erosion, the country is in turmoil because of terrorist groups. All these factors together have given rise to humanitarian crises, forced people to migrate and exacerbated conflicts over land.
